Gist: God calls on a tree farmer to challenge the kings scruples. He knows two things, fig trees and God’s
calling. He refuses to divorce himself from either. Jesus allows a learned man to show himself as worthy by
using others as a measuring stick, Jesus then redirects the scribe by reminding him what God seeks and it’s not
top producers, it’s mercy.
