Praying at the Table Takeaways. John 17
“The Hour Has Come”
ï‚· Jesus was sent to glorify The Father as a witness to His love and truth.
ï‚· All that Jesus was given were the Father’s, especially the disciples.
ï‚· The Father is glorified by their receiving eternal life by knowing Him. (This is
eternal life.)
“I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do.”
ï‚· I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world.
ï‚· Jesus opened the eyes of the blind, freed the oppressed, fed the hungry,
released the captives from prison, released those who sit in darkness. (cf.
Isaiah 42:1-9)
“And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the
world began.”
ï‚· Jesus prays for the disciple’s protection, witness, and unity.
ï‚· That they not be taken out of the world.
“I pray also for those who will believe in me through their witness.
ï‚· That we would see The Father as He is through Jesus and with Jesus.
ï‚· That we would be one with the Father and the Son.
“I have made you known to them and will continue to make you known.”
ï‚· So that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in
them.
Why would Jesus pray they not be taken out of the world?
ï‚· Because we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world.
