Gist: Paul asks questions, rhetorical yes but very necessary. The law identifies sin and at that point, sin
multiplied exponentially – but through Jesus so did grace. In what line are we present? To What or Who
will we present ourselves? Are we Present and accounted for or Present and accounted to?
Takeaways:

We are to remember that our former self – aimed at spiritual death is now alive to God in Christ Jesus. We have a new
master.
12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.
ï‚· Because of faith activated by grace. Faith that in Jesus’ work on the cross, we’ve been justified (pardoned of our
consequence from our sin) and reconciled (restored to relationship).
13 And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being
alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over
you, for you are not under law but under grace.
ï‚· The law called our attention to the sin into which we were steeped and bound, but God’s Grace by faith set us
free.
ï‚· Because we are now free from sin does not mean we don’t have to wrestle with it.
15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not! 16 Do you not know that to
whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death,
or of obedience leading to righteousness?
ï‚· Whichever we choose, knowing the difference is voluntary.
17 But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which
you were delivered. 18 And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.
ï‚· What a present! What they used to be, slaves of sin; what they did – obeyed the call; what happened to them,
set free from sin; and what they had become, slaves of righteousness.
ï‚· Because we were made aware, our call to be saints is delivered, God’s Spirit is Present.
19 I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of
uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness
for holiness.
20 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. 21 What fruit did you have then in the
things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.
ï‚· We are all slaves to something and Someone, which will you Present?
22-23 But now that you have been freed from sin and enslaved to God, the advantage you get is sanctification.
The end is eternal life.   For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our
Lord. Romans 6:22-23
